Conservatory Craftsmen is honored to be par of the team that is restoring the Historic Civil War Naval Hospital, on Pennsylvania Ave in Washington, DC, now home of the Hill Center.
The hospital was originally commissioned by Abraham Lincoln for US Navy personnel who were injured during the Civil War. It operated as a hospital for most of the last half of the 19th century.
Almost 150 years later, the building, in its abandoned state, was looked upon by its owner, the National Parks Service as a historic site that warranted restoration.
The local Hill Center was formed and became the central tenant for the proposed renovation. A Conservatory was proposed to be attached to the carriage house. Conservatory Craftsmen were given the task of constructing this structure.
This was the condition of the carriage house when the team at Conservatory Craftsmen first got a glimpse of her. Watch the blog to see how this transformation took place.
