Featured Conservatory Project for Bond 45 Restaurant in National Harbor, MD

When Fireman Hospitality Group decided to open a new Bond 45 restaurant in National Harbor, Maryland, overlooking the marina on the banks of the Potomac River, their challenge was to take advantage of the view on the terrace all year long, not just the few months of seasonal weather.

The solution: a conservatory, bringing the feeling and light of the outdoors into a room protected from the weather. However, one large conservatory on the long terrace would not give the intimacy desired, so the group elected to build four separate green hip‐roofed conservatories, all overlooking the harbor.

Conservatory Craftsmen began construction on November 7, with the bulk of the project done by Thanksgiving and the entire project being finished by the restaurant’s opening in January. “This project was a challenge, both in meeting deadlines and the construction specifications,” said Jim Hewitt of Conservatory Craftsmen. “But we had a great time working with the restaurant and the National Harbor group.”

In addition to designing and building the conservatory framework with a green powder coating to match the restaurant’s specifications, special glass had to be manufactured and installed to give privacy to dining, full view effect to the harbor and protection from occasional sun glare.

Already a landmark in New York’s theater district, Bond 45, a New York Italian Steak and Seafood House brings its retro Italian dining experience to the National Harbor complex of hotel, convention center, retail, dining, residential and office space, minutes from Washington, DC, and a short ferry ride or drive from Old Town Alexandria, Virginia. The restaurant seats 275, and the four glass conservatories are ideal for private dining for groups of 10 to 28.
